About us
The cutting-edge scientific activity of CIC bioGUNE researchers explores the interface between Chemistry and Biomedicine, with emphasis on Structural, Molecular and Cell Biology, with the aim of developing a more Precise Medicine for the future. An integrative Bioinformatics Program extrapolates relevant conclusions from basic science.
2023 in Numbers
CIC bioGUNE renews its «Full Accreditation» by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC).
The new Ultra High-field 1 GHz NMR equipment is received. The budget has been strongly supported by the Basque Government, through the Azpitek program, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, through the Technology Transfer-Infrastructure program, and funding from the Severo Ochoa Excellence Seal from AEI. It will be focused to investigations within the Precision and Personalized Medicine field.

Along 2023, CIC bioGUNE Investigators Published 178 articles and received over 10k citations.
Projects & Funding Applications
Innovation
Two Agreements are signed between La Caixa Foundation and CIC bioGUNE within the framework of the CaixaImpulse Innovation Program. The funded projects are entitled “Treating Liver Disease with Therapeutic RNA (LiveRNA)”, by Dr. Malu Martínez-Chantar, and “Humanized Wnt-11 antibodies for cancer therapy: further validation and asset development (WNT11Weapon)”, by Dr. Robert Kypta.
Dr. Alberto Fernández-Tejada, Group Leader of the Chemical Immunology Lab, receives an ERC Proof of Concept grant, ADJUPROBE, with a budget of € 150000, on top of two other PoC ERCs obtained in 2022, ADJU-PLATFORM and ADJUVACCINE.
A Framework Agreement is signed between CIC bioGUNE, ESAME Biomedical SL, IMQ Igurco, BIOEF, and IIS Biobizkaia to develop the BioSilver Project, focused on the “Epidemiological study on the risk of frailty: metabolomics and vitamin D deficiency in a population above 65 years old in Bizkaia”.
